A U.S. Navy submarine commander becomes convinced that guided missiles launched from submarines represent the future of naval warfare after witnessing postwar tests. He pushes to have his crew trained in the experimental technology at a missile test center, where he navigates obstacles and develops a romance with the base commander's secretary.
